The Timeless Texture of the Book of Revelation

The Timeless Texture of the Book of Revelation by Stephen J. Schooling

In January last year my friend Stephen Schooling kindly allowed me to make available his Ph.D. thesis on the book of Revelation: The Structure of the Book of Revelation: A Discourse Analysis Perspective (you can read the original post here). Dr Schooling has now expanded and updated his thesis, which has been published in the form of a book and has asked me to share some details about the book here.

Stephen J. Schooling, The Timeless Texture of the Book of Revelation: A Holistic Discourse Analysis. Seven Stars Publications, 2025. ISBN: 978-1764174701. pp.742.

Strange as it may seem, Revelation is actually a discipleship manual. It was written to Christians who were living in difficult times. Its goal was to encourage them to continue to follow the Lamb wherever He may lead them and to learn to be overcomers.

Seven Reasons Why this Book is Different

  1. It provides a complete, clear outline of this complex book, with detailed supporting explanation.
  2. It includes 70 charts, suitable for sermon outlines. This opens the door for any preacher to expound the whole book instead of just parts of it.
  3. It puts Jesus back into the centre of the book. It highlights where He appears in Revelation and reveals at least 7 mysteries about Him.
  4. It shows us that Revelation was always intended to be a timeless blessing to all generations of believers.
  5. It shows us how to live in the present as overcomers, in and through all the difficulties of life.
  6. It reveals our glorious God-given destiny, which is to rule and reign over the Kingdom of God, along with Jesus, who is King over everything.
  7. It reminds us that God’s plan for this world is totally positive and is revealed to give us Hope.

About the Author

Stephen Schooling completed his undergraduate studies in theology in the UK. He then obtained his MA in linguistics at UT Arlington in the USA, followed by his PhD in Biblical Studies from Trinity College Bristol, UK. He spent many years with Wycliffe Bible Translators, teaching in their linguistics schools, training Mother Tongue Translators and serving as an administrator and as a translation consultant. Then for another 25 years as co-founder and principal of a pioneer Bible School ministry in the francophone islands of the Pacific Region, he continued to dedicate his life to making the truth of God’s word accessible to those who had very limited opportunity to read or study it for themselves. He has always been passionate about sharing the truth of God’s Word, in season and out of season, with all who will listen. After a life-time of missionary service he now lives with his wife, Janice, in Queensland, Australia, near their 2 daughters.
