The Earthen Vessel started 1845; merged with Gospel Herald in 1887 to become The Earthen Vessel and Gospel Herald until 1918/19. It then became Gospel Herald and The Earthen Vessel – but still often referred to as Earthen Vessel! After 1954 it became Gospel Herald until June 1970 when it and Free Grace Record were replaced by Grace.
The Earthen Vessel was a Strict Baptist magazine that is noteworthy for its criticism of Charles H. Spurgeon and "Spurgeonism". For more information about historic Baptist journals: "Baptist Periodicals," Transactions of the Baptist Historical Society 5.3 (April 1917): 193-196 and this blog post.
The print quality in these volumes does not make for easy reading. In some places the text has faded or become obscured by foxing. Pagination in the early volumes is also somewhat random. For best results view on a PC and set PDF viewer to "page width", if possible.
