Theology on the Web at 25: Achievement #2: Digitisation of “The Churchman”
The Churchman is an Anglican theological journal published by The Church Society. It was first published in 1879 and the first series (known as the old series) of 14 volumes ran until 1886. The new series began in 1887 and continues to this day. In 2020 the journal changed its name to The Global Anglican.
In 2012 I approached the Director of the Church Society with an offer to digitise the journal. The Church Society’s archive of The Churchman was lost in a fire many years ago and so it has been necessary to obtain copies from several libraries around the UK, as complete sets are extremely rare. In December I was able to borrow the remaining volumes of the Old Series from Wycliffe Hall in Oxford and this series is now complete. As for the new series, only 7 issues are still missing [Vol. 12, No’s 109-111, 120 (1897-1898); Vol. 15, No’s 145-147 (1900-1901)]. If anyone has copies of these that they would be willing to make available for scanning, please let me know.
If you would like to view the 784 articles in the old series and the 5,880 currently available in the new series, please use the links below:
