{"id":163,"date":"2011-12-27T20:38:00","date_gmt":"2011-12-27T20:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/biblicalstudies.org.uk\/blog\/?p=163"},"modified":"2024-03-28T22:08:22","modified_gmt":"2024-03-28T22:08:22","slug":"theology-on-the-web-year-end-round-up-2011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biblicalstudies.org.uk\/blog\/theology-on-the-web-year-end-round-up-2011\/","title":{"rendered":"Theology on the Web Year End Round-Up 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2011 has been a busy year that has seen a number of milestone developments in the websites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For many years I have worked on <i><a href=\"https:\/\/biblicalstudies.org.uk\/articles_evangelical_quarterly.php\">The Evangelical Quarterly<\/a><\/i> in a piecemeal manner, adding a few articles at a time as originals became available to scan. This year I decided to make concerted effort to digitise at least the last 60 years and to contact the authors for permission to place them on-line. There are still a few gaps as a small number of authors declined permission and some did not respond but nevertheless a substantial proportion of the back-issues are now freely available. An unexpected bonus from the process of contacting authors was an introduction to a new journal &#8211; <i><a href=\"https:\/\/biblicalstudies.org.uk\/articles_srshj_01.php\">Scottish Reformation Society Historical Journal<\/a><\/i>. I contacted the editor and now have a number of its articles on-line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The digitisation of the <i><a href=\"https:\/\/biblicalstudies.org.uk\/articles_ijt_01.php\">Indian Journal of Theology<\/a><\/i> is now complete as far as I can take it, the remaining issues being unavailable for scanning at this point in time. If anyone can help to fill the gaps, please let me know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One project which proved extremely popular was the digitisation of the works of the late H.L. Ellison, thanks to the kind permission of The Paternoster Press. Ellison wrote a number of studies on OT history and prophecy, such as <i><a href=\"https:\/\/biblicalstudies.org.uk\/book_bethlehem_ellison.html\">From Babylon to Bethlehem. The People of God from the Exile to the Messiah<\/a><\/i> which have all received a significant number of downloads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I became a Christian at university and so owe a debt of gratitude to the work of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uccf.org.uk\/\">Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship<\/a> (UCCF). UCCF began in the UK as Inter-Varsity Fellowship and published a vast number of magazines for students from the 1920s (if not earlier) onwards. Its work, particularly among theology students through its specialist organisation Religious and Theological Students&#8217; Fellowship (RTSF), \u00a0had a significant influence on the development and spread of evangelicalism in the UK. Many of the key Christian leaders of the 20th Century were impacted \u00a0by it, including <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Stott\">John R.W. Stott<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jim_packer\">Jim Packer<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Michael_Green_(theologian)\">Michael Green<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/David_Watson_(evangelist)\">David C.K. Watson<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roger_T._Forster\">Roger Foster<\/a>. The early publications such as, <i>Inter-Varsity Magazine <\/i>and\u00a0\u00a0<i>Christian Graduate<\/i> later gave way to <a href=\"http:\/\/themelios.thegospelcoalition.org\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>Themelios<\/i> <\/a>and the <i>Tyn<a href=\"https:\/\/biblicalstudies.org.uk\/articles_tyndale-bulletin_01.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dale Bulletin<\/a><\/i>, which are still in production today. Although RTSF passed away a few years ago, its archive contains much significant material which is in the process of being sorted and catalogued. I have already begun to make some of it on-line, including some of the RTSF Monographs and <i><a href=\"https:\/\/biblicalstudies.org.uk\/articles_tsfbulletin_01.php\">TSF Bulletin<\/a><\/i>, but hope to do more in this next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps the highlight of the year came about through the digitisation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/biblicalstudies.org.uk\/articles_tbhs_01.php\"><i>Transactions of the Baptist Historical Society<\/i> \/ <i>The Baptist Quarterly<\/i><\/a>. The opportunity to do this arose from my ongoing work in partnership with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.keston.org.uk\/\">Keston Institute<\/a> placing <i><a href=\"https:\/\/biblicalstudies.org.uk\/articles_rcl_01.php\">Religion in Communist Lands<\/a><\/i>&nbsp;and <i><a href=\"https:\/\/biblicalstudies.org.uk\/articles_rss_01.php\">Religion, State and Society<\/a><\/i>&nbsp;on-line and resulted in an article in <a href=\"https:\/\/biblicalstudies.org.uk\/pdf\/baptist-times_05-08-2011_page14.pdf\"><i>The Baptist Times<\/i> on the 5th August<\/a>. Since completing the journal I have been asked to take on the digitisation of a similar journal published by another denomination &#8211; more details on this early next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All in all the tenth year of the &#8220;Theology on the Web&#8221; project has been extremely productive and I look forward to seeing what 2012 will bring.
