Starting when he was 27 and finishing when he was 72, Meyer completed and then revised 16 volumes on the New Testament, the remaining five being completed by close friends (Gottlieb L\u00fcnemann, Johann Ed. Huther and Friedrich D\u00fcsterdieck). Skilled in multiple languages Meyer has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the scholarly literature of his day and used this to bridge the gap between the Academy and the Church.
